Stand against systemic violence in Washington County.

End police violence.

ICE has carried out a campaign of fear and harassment in and around the Washington County Courthouse.

Hard data shows that Latinx drivers stopped by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Hillsboro and Beaverton Police Departments receive disparate treatment compared to white drivers.

Demand accountability.

The Washington County Sheriff’s and District Attorney’s Offices declined to take any action after Deputy Rian Alden brutally attacked Albert Molina in March 2018.

Alden was placed on leave and charged in Summer 2020, apparently in a last-ditch effort to avoid political fallout.

Disrupt injustice.

In 2019, the Oregon Court of Appeals reversed a criminal conviction after Kevin Barton, Washington County’s elected District Attorney, excluded a Black prospective juror from serving.

In June 2020, the Washington County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a $7.2 million raise for the sheriff’s and district attorney’s offices while cutting the county’s overall budget by 5%.

This redoubled commitment to police and the criminal courts as the solution to social problems directly contradicts the realities we are facing during this time of national reckoning with the negative effects of overpolicing on communities of color.
